Our Holiday Plumbing Guide

The holidays are upon us! We hope that this brings a smile to many of our customers’ faces as they reminisce on the beautiful traditions, snow, and activities that come with this time of year.

You’re probably excited about cooking some wonderful meals over the next few weeks, but in order to do this properly you’re going to need a functioning plumbing system.

Plumbing pipes are complicated. They can seem perfectly fine from the outside but inside they could be gurgling, clogging up, and eventually ruining your day. Nothing can make an otherwise fun holiday into a stressful event like a drain clog, which is why we’d like to propose this nifty holiday plumbing guide.

Many of these tips are absolutely free and can be done by homeowners to help keep things running smoothly. But if DIY tips and tools don’t work, you can always count on us for drain cleaning services in Worcester County, MA.

Fats, Oils, and Grease

First, make sure you keep these three materials out of your drain no matter what. Fats, oils, and grease (like butter, olive oil, or rendered fat from a roast) might enter your drain as a liquid, but they’ll quickly cool down and turn solid. This makes them susceptible to clogging up your drain and sometimes they can be the hardest materials to remove.

Using a Mesh Screen

A mesh screen is a great tool for your drains. They catch any contaminants that are large enough to clog the drain before they enter the drain itself. Then, once the sink dries up, they can be emptied into the trash can. You’ll extend the time between drain cleanings or clogs if you use a mesh screen to capture clogging elements.

Two More Tools to Use

We’re not done with the DIY solutions yet! Here are two tools that homeowners absolutely should have at home.

  • A drain snake. Drain snakes are very good at removing clogs. They curl through your drain since they’re usually made out of wire or plastic, and they rip apart at the clogging elements while leaving your drain in perfectly good shape.
  • A sink plunger. These are not the same as toilet plungers. They’re smaller and easier to use (not to mention cleaner), and they can remove clogging materials with water and pressure. Use it similarly to how you would use a toilet plunger when you have a clog.

Schedule an Early Drain Cleaning

What if we told you that the most powerful tool you could use comes from us? Our team can clean your drain using a system called a hydro jet, which uses a natural, high-pressure water spigot at the end of an auger that fits down your drain. It simply removes any and all clogging material in just a few seconds, which makes it one of the best methods for clearing your drain.

All of this can be done early, so you can spend this holiday season paying attention to the things that matter.

With Landry Mechanical Inc Plumbing HVAC & Electric, we take comfort in YOUR comfort. Schedule a drain cleaning appointment today!
