Last week we started the discussion on why maintenance during autumn is such a good idea, but the conversation doesn’t stop there! Maintenance is only one aspect of home comfort, and today we’re going to talk about some others.
First of all, not everyone is in the best position to get maintenance right now. In fact, your AC or heating system might require repairs more than it does maintenance, and that could be the best choice going forward. But even if you’re in a perfect situation and you just had maintenance done on your HVAC system, there’s still more that can be done.
We’ll make things quick–this blog post is going to be about some great ways that you can prepare for the cold weather ahead and where you might be able to save a bit of money in the future. Start with heating repairs in Marlborough, MA and take things step by step.
If There’s a Problem, Get It Fixed
Right off the bat, there’s not much you can do on your own if your heating system or air conditioner has a problem. From foul odors to strange noises, these are indicative of the need for repairs, which should only be done by a licensed professional like the ones from our team.
While a DIY tutorial on how to fix these problems would probably sound like a good idea right now, the consequences can be pretty bad. You might end up stressed out, injured, doing something illegal (like DIY gas line work), or even breaking something that requires professional repairs to fix as well. Take it from us, your local team of experts–your HVAC system should be repaired by a qualified individual.
What CAN You Do This September?
Here is a good list of things you can do to help improve your home that doesn’t have to do with trying to fix a problem on your own. Most of these things are free and you can do them right now to better make your home efficient.
- Change the air filter. First things first, a filter change can do a lot of good for your heating or cooling system. Make sure the unit is off before you do anything, but this can cause measurable improvements in your home comfort, efficiency, and more.
- Think about a thermostat replacement. If you don’t necessarily have the money for an AC or heating upgrade, maybe think about at least upgrading your thermostat to a model that can be operated with your smartphone.
- Insulate your home. It might be a good idea to focus away from your heating system this year and more on the insulation that works hard to keep your home warm day after day. The better insulated your home is, the more efficient your HVAC system will work.
- Bundle up. Remember, if you dress warm this fall and winter, you’ll be warmer and can set your thermostat a bit lower than it would be otherwise. This can save a good amount of money per year.
